Because the red-orange dye molecule is binding to the keratin that surrounds the pigmented hair core, the resulting color is different for every strand of hair, and for every person. The henna stain is translucent, and blends with your own color. Hennaed hair looks like you grew it yourself! The color you get on your hair will vary depending on your hair color you have now and the chemicals you already have on your hair. Many ask if it is safe to apply Henna on color-treated hair and the answer is YES! But it’s only safe to use high quality, body-art quality Henna .

Henna is a tall shrub or small tree, standing to  m tall (6 to 25 ft). It is glabrous and multi-branched, with spine-tipped branchlets. The leaves grow opposite each other on the stem. They are glabrous, sub- sessile , elliptical , and lanceolate (long and wider in the middle; average dimensions are – cm x –2 cm or –2 in x – in), acuminate (tapering to a long point), and have depressed veins on the dorsal surface. [3] Henna flowers have four sepals and a 2 mm ( in) calyx tube, with 3 mm ( in) spread lobes. Its petals are obvate, with white or red stamens found in pairs on the rim of the calyx tube. The ovary is four-celled, 5 mm ( in) long, and erect. Henna fruits are small, brownish capsules, 4–8 mm (– in) in diameter, with 32–49 seeds per fruit, and open irregularly into four splits. [6]

Standard, non-organic hair dye is loaded with all sorts of questionably safe chemicals : ammonia , formaldehyde , sodium laurel sulphates and parabens , to name a few. Much of the research focuses on how the chemicals affect the salon workers who use them daily, but it's not hard to see how years of chemical abuse would leave my hair -- and that of 75 percent of American women who admit to dyeing their hair -- less shiny and soft. (Aging, it should be noted, could be a factor here, too.) The Organic Color System, on the other hand, is a natural, ammonia-free solution that promises long-lasting, vibrant results. Between 98-99 percent of the ingredients are naturally derived or organic, and the only synthetic ingredients are the pigments and stabilizers.

These are natural colors and as such will create natural hues on your hair. They will not create artificial colors like hot pink, completely platinum blonde, or jet black (ok, so that isn’t a fake color, I just haven’t figured out how to do it…) The blonde/light recipes will actually permanently lighten hair since they naturally bleach it but the red and dark hues will leave a temporary tint for a few weeks (depending on how often you wash it). The sun will help set all the hues.

Who decides that men look distinguished with grey hair and women don't? This article just seems to validate that stereotype by saying that women "don't have the luxury" of being able to get away with grey hair. You could easily have presented natural hair color options without making assumptions about why someone would want or "need" to use color, that's an unnecessary angle.
