Coffee can do more than just perk you up in the morning--research shows that coffee can stimulate hair growth [1] while increasing shine and adding depth to dark hair. But you won't see these effects just sipping on a cup of joe--follow these instructions to learn how coffee can make your hair glow.

I use this brand . It comes in 12 colors including red , auburn , and light brown . I follow the simple directions on the box. My hair is naturally dark brown. Since henna does not lighten hair, if I use one of the browns, it does not change the color of my hair much. If I use one of the reds, it does give my hair a red undertone (how red depends on the shade I use). I use henna mostly for the deep conditioning properties as opposed to the hair color.

The coffee should stain your hair. This only makes your hair a few shades darker so if you are trying to make a drastic change, you are going to need to repeat the process a few times.

The acid in lemons works as a natural bleach that is intensified and accelerated by exposing the treated hair to UV rays from sunlight. So after application, expose your hair to natural sunlight for around 30 to 45 minutes (preferably longer) before taking a shower.

I thought about using henna, but as I researched natural hair dyes, I found a few links that talked about using coffee. Of course, I didn’t follow any of the directions because I thought I could come up with a better way to do it—and I did, but it took me two tries.

Commercial hair dyes can be expensive, not to mention that they are full of chemicals and irritants. Many people have allergies to over-the-counter and professional hair dyes. However, you can use natural products such as coffee, teas, fruits, and vegetables to color your hair. Keep in mind that these methods are semi-permanent and will wash out over time. This article contains tips on how to dye hair with multiple all natural substances.

This has been tried and tested by myself, I have some before and after pictures above, the first is my hair before – looking lank and not very shiny (I wash my hair every other day). The second is a few hours after I had washed out the mixture. My hair was more managable and didn’t get so tangled and also was VERY shiny and as you can see the colour is vibrant. I had dyed my hair dark brown and it had enhanced the colour – so it even works on those dyed hair types!
