Natural shampoo making

Give your shampoo bottle a quick shake before you lather it on your tresses. Human Nature uses natural emulsifiers that prevent the ingredients in our shampoos from separating, and after a certain period of time, the natural oils settle on top of the water and solid ingredients. So don’t forget to shake it to make sure you get all the good stuff in there mixed well!

In an effort to seal my “crunchy” status, I even tried the whole  ‘no poo  thing hoping to rid myself completely of a need for any sort of “product.” After two months of trying, I learned that with my hard water it just wasn’t going to happen. (Sigh) I was beginning to think I was doomed to harsh chemicals and cleaners in order to feel like I could show my face (or head) in public again. Surely there was a natural shampoo that would work? Anyone? Anyone?

When aerosol dry shampoo came on the market, it was a life-changer for me (I was in college at the time, working and studying, and often running late to both). What an amazing invention! Until you look at the ingredient label…

So without any further delays lets get started. For making this all natural hair shampoo or cleanser you will need Reetha also known as Soapnut and Shikakai also known as Acacia concinna. I am sure most of you the benefits of these two but still let me write down a few of them

Eight months ago I decided to try a radical experiment in  natural hair care: I ditched the shampoo . It was a bit like jumping off a cliff (and I’m so  not  a fan of heights) but I decided that there was nothing to lose, so I jumped. And four months later as I look back, I realize that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Four months in to No Shampoo (often called “No-Poo” on the web) and my hair is so healthy that I have decided to make my experiment permanent: I will never go back to shampoo.

Every concoction is mindfully cooked, mixed and hand-blended with love and passion from their lab; designed to soothe and care for the most delicate types of skin, whilst being practical for their multiple uses that each product offers, consciously sustainable, as only recyclable packaging is used and not tested on animals.

Making your own shampoo is safer for you and your family because you’re using natural ingredients. Benefit #3: Works Better. This is going to be highly ...

First on my list of natural homemade shampoos is a recipe I’ve promised to one of our readers some time ago then shuffled through a whole lot of old notebooks only to realize I don’t have it anymore.

Every day 27,000 American children become infested with head lice - and since lice actually prefer clean hair, this shatters the myth that kids who get lice are somehow "unclean". In fact, lice are easily transferred by sharing a towel, a chair, or even a hug.

Hair-care products, such as shampoos, conditioners and rinses, all perform specific functions that keep your hair looking and feeling its best. Shampoo cleans the scalp first and hair second by loosening dirt and oils. Conditioners protect the hair from drying out and becoming too brittle, which can result in breakage. Rinses clean the hair thoroughly and help to remove any hair-product traces.

Well, before I get into exactly how to make your own shampoo, I want to stress the reasons why you should consider this option in the first place:

It’s simple. No one cares more about your pocket book or your hair than you. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you want to make your own shampoo. And that’s why you want to make more of your own products. So do we!

These seven products are my natural beauty staples… (There’s a list of recipes I use them in below!) If you’re just starting out with DIY beauty products, these are great to have on hand and you can make many, many recipes with just these ingredients!

If you haven’t made soap before, or read my article on basic soap making, you’ll want to familiarize yourself by reading this first:  Homemade All Natural Soap . This recipe uses a novel way of making soap – all the weights have been converted to measurements to simplify the process.
