The basic idea of a dry shampoo (or wet-dry shampoo) is to put an oil absorbing substance (like arrowroot or cornstarch) on the oily parts of your hair to absorb the oil and leave it looking clean. This is also very helpful if you’ll be styling hair and need it to hold. Dirty hair hold better than clean hair, but it doesn’t have to look dirty. In fact, for an upcoming wedding I’ll be sporting hair that hasn’t been washed in three days (you’re welcome for that visual!) 🙂

A Note Before you Start – most of the home made shampoo recipes you find will be made using a bought, base shampoo. You can go further and make your own Base Shampoo but it is a little tricky to make and you may waste a lot of time learning. The best idea is to buy a good organic base shampoo (un-perfumed) and use this, at least in the beginning.

Give your shampoo bottle a quick shake before you lather it on your tresses. Human Nature uses natural emulsifiers that prevent the ingredients in our shampoos from separating, and after a certain period of time, the natural oils settle on top of the water and solid ingredients. So don’t forget to shake it to make sure you get all the good stuff in there mixed well!

First on my list of natural homemade shampoos is a recipe I’ve promised to one of our readers some time ago then shuffled through a whole lot of old notebooks only to realize I don’t have it anymore.

There are many reasons to eschew typical shampoo if you have naturally curly or wavy hair. Cleansing hair without a shampoo can give straight hair back its natural fullness and body, and maybe even a wavy texture that was being shampooed out. Most shampoos contain harsh, drying sulfates that are extremely damaging for curly hair (ammonium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, etc.). They are often foaming agents that make curly hair frizzy and uncooperative. Using conditioner, or another replacement such as baking soda in place of shampoo will cleanse the hair just as effectively without stripping it of moisture.

So without any further delays lets get started. For making this all natural hair shampoo or cleanser you will need Reetha also known as Soapnut and Shikakai also known as Acacia concinna. I am sure most of you the benefits of these two but still let me write down a few of them

Two words from the description should tell everything about this product – organics and green tea. It is just great for greasy hair and thankfully it is also not very expensive. It also smells perfect by the way.
